Since these studies lack a specific client to guide their direction, each of them draws inspiration from the music of a particular artist or composer, serving as a stand-in for the preferences of the owner. Flume, the artist behind this residence, is known for incorporating "glitch" into his music, which exuberantly embraces imperfection and unpredictability. Architecture can benefit from the same. While the simplicity of Platonic forms have an inherent appeal, modern mathematics has deepened our understanding of nature's geometry, revealing perhaps an even more sublime beauty that can arise from the complexity of natural forms. Fractal geometry can inspire new ways to incorporate pattern into architecture. The tumbling volumes of this residence, for example, attempt to emulate the profile of natural rock outcroppings found at other locations along the Big Sur coastline. These irregular forms could be misinterpreted as deconstructivist fragmentation that tries to unsettle the viewer, but the intent here is just the opposite; it aims to suggest the solidity of heavy forms at rest in an organic arrangement.
