Derek Knowles has twenty-eight years of experience in luxury hospitality design. He has guided the technical development and construction of numerous world-class resorts including the Four Seasons Silicon Valley, and the Rosewood at Sand Hill, playing a critical role in shaping their design and ensuring their constructability. Most recently, he led the exterior design effort on two signature mountain projects: Montage Big Sky and Phase II of the Yellowstone Club.
In 2025, Derek began a series of studies exploring the space between vernacular tradition and experimental design, often guided by principles of organic composition that value richness of detail and visual complexity. He believes architecture should be inventive, playful, purposeful, unpredictable, site-specific, and above all, beautiful—in a way that mirrors the values and personality of those it serves—while still meeting the practical demands of budget, schedule, function, sustainability, and constructability.
See his LinkedIn profile for his professional portfolio from his time as a Project Architect and Designer at Hill-Glazier Architects and Hart Howerton.
