I attended Burning Man in 2009. It made quite the impression. Never have returned. Sometimes unique memories are best left to stand alone.
But the idea of erecting an observation tower out on Black Rock Desert has fascinated me ever since. It's an exhilaratingly simple design exercise: Devise a temporary structure to raise a platform 40' above the earth. Make it somehow intriguing so that you can't help but want to climb it.
Each tower is a product of one generative idea. Tower One is the tree trunk, cantilevered from roots spreading out radially in the ground. Tower two is the exoskeleton with legs spread to stabilize it, tower three is the strength of steel in tension.
